Village history
Teversal village is mentioned in the Doomsday book and its oldest building is the parish church, which has an interesting Norman door-way, with symbolic sculpture, seventeenth century seating, a gallery at the west end, and seven ‘hatchments’ from the Molyneux family who owned the manor for two hundred years. The village contains farmhouses dating from the 18th and 19th centuries, and Manor Farm itself was built in 1863 by Henrietta Countess of Carnarvon (her monogram is engraved on the North side of the house), grandmother of the fifth Earl of Carnarvon, who discovered the tomb of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun in 1922. The village pub, originally built as a turnpike toll-gate in the 18th century, was renamed after the Carnarvon family. Find out more on The Carnarvon’s website.
